Above kitchen islands or counters, hang pendants 28–34 inches from the surface. In open areas or over dining tables, aim for 30–36 inches. For high ceilings, you can extend the drop for added impact.

Most kitchen islands look balanced with 2–3 pendants spaced evenly apart. For wider islands or dining tables, a single large statement pendant or a linear fixture may be a better fit.
